McLamb Documents Cancer Patient’s Journey for Booklet

April 11, 2006 – Myself: Together Again, a printed booklet using artful black-and-white photographs to document the mastectomy and reconstruction surgery of a 32-year-old breast cancer survivor has been published by local breast cancer foundations.

Missy McLamb photographed all 16 black-and-white photographs printed in the book as well as consulted on the project.

For over a year, McLamb and Horowitz would work together to photographically document the reconstruction process. “It was nice to return to my roots of storytelling to affect change in my community,” McLamb said about the project.

The finished booklet is available through doctor’s offices or by contacting Myself: Together Again (http://myselftogetheragain.org). To read the full article in the Raleigh News and Observer, visit: http://www.newsobserver.com/150/story/427030.html.

Missy McLamb is founder of Missy McLamb Photographers, a North Carolina-based documentary photography agency whose photographers’ images regularly appear in the editorial pages of the New York Times, Washington Post and Martha Stewart Weddings. Missy and her associates employ an unobtrusive approach and combine documentary and fine art imagery with classic portraiture in both black and white and color photographs.
